According to the Chief Minister’s office, 1.59 lakh people have been declared as ‘foreigners’ in Assam so far, while 100 Foreigners’ Tribunals (FTs) are functional in the state to deal with the citizenship issue of D-voters.
In a response to an AIUDF legislator’s question about the citizenship issue of D-voters in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 1,59,353 people have been declared as foreigners by these tribunals till December 31, 2023.
Sarma further informed that these tribunals have disposed of 3,37,186 cases till the end of last year, and 96,149 cases are still pending before various FTs. According to data, 96,987 D-voters are in the state as per the data.

It is also worth noting that 41,275 D-voters are yet to receive an FT notice from the tribunal, following which the due procedure is followed.
