Assam Legislative Assembly's budget session commences today

Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session is set to commence on Monday, lasting until February 28. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria is scheduled to address the assembly on the inaugural day, marking the formal commencement of proceedings.

Finance Minister Ajanta Neog is slated to present the state budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on February 12. The upcoming budget session has prompted heightened security measures within the state assembly premises.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced significant legislative initiatives during this session. The Assam Polygamy Ban Bill is among the key proposals expected to be introduced, addressing social and legal aspects of polygamy within the state.

Additionally, the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024, is set to be introduced during the budget session.

After the Governor’s address, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X to share his opinion saying, “Hon’ble Governor’s address to the Assam Legislative Assembly was both inspirational and aspirational. It covered several aspects, highlighted the transformative changes that have taken place and presented a coherent roadmap for a Viksit Assam.”
