Guwahati: Eminent Industrialist Ratan Naval Tata was conferred the “Assam Baibhav”, the state’s highest civilian award in Mumbai today.
The Tata Trust Chairman received the award from Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at a function held at Taj Wellington Mews in Mumbai’s Colaba.
The “Assam Baibhav” Award bestowed upon Tata carries a citation, a medal and a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh for his exceptional contribution towards furthering cancer care in Assam.
Due to personal reasons, Ratan Tata could not attend the official award ceremony held in Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra, Guwahati on January 24 where Governor Jagdish Mukhi conferred the State’s three highest civilian awards to 18 other distinguished personalities in different fields.
On December 2, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced that the Government of Assam will confer its highest civilian award, the Assam Baibhav, on Ratan Tata for his contribution to cancer care in Assam.
