Guwahati: Assam Civil Services (ACS) officer Ahongbam Bemthoi Chanu, one of the most prominent and promising faces of the Manipuri community in Assam, passed away on Tuesday following a brief illness. She was 36 years old.

Chanu, who was posted at the Bokajan Subdivision of the Karbi Anglong district as a Magistrate, reportedly passed away due to kidney and liver failure at a hospital in Nagaland.

According to reports, Chanu was admitted to a hospital in Nagaland after complaining of abdomen pain on Sunday. While the family and doctors contemplated airlifting Chanu to Chennai, she breathed her last.

Chanu was popular for her honesty and dedication. She cracked the ACS conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in 2015 and secured the 59th position.
