Dibrugarh: Security forces apprehended three hardcore cadres of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Friday.
The cadres were apprehended from the general area of Wancho Colony in Khonsa in Tirap district.
The individuals have been identified as Wingan Agan (33), Jhonny Riba (21), and Rajapeyu Khechan Khetey (30).
“Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in the general area of Wancho Colony in Khonsa, leading to the apprehension of three hardcore cadres of NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) along with arms and ammunition,” an official said.
Two 7.65 pistols with magazines, nine live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, three mobile phones, three SIM cards, three GPRN letters, and brown sugar worth Rs 500 were recovered from their possession.
Displaying swift action, professional excellence, and relentless pursuit, the Assam Rifles played a decisive role in the successful apprehension of the three insurgents belonging to the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction.
The apprehended individuals, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police in Khonsa for further investigation.
Recently, security forces also apprehended two insurgents belonging to the Armed Naga Extremists (ANE) group of NSCN (Khango) and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) from different areas of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
The apprehended individuals were identified as Kamnong Pangtha and Gopang Negimu.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive operation against NSCN factions in the districts of eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
“Due to continuous operations by security forces, many insurgents have returned to the mainstream. Several factions of the NSCN remain active in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Recently, multiple insurgents have been nabbed from different areas across the districts,” an official source said.
