Dibrugarh: As many as 21 labourers from Assam are feared dead after their vehicle turtles down a gorge on the Hayuliang-Chaglagam Road in Arunachal Pradesh on December 7.
But police received the information on Wednesday night and reached the spot.
According to police, the search operation began on Thursday morning. The truck fell at least 1000 feet.
According to reports, the dump truck was ferrying labourers to a construction site in Arunachal Pradesh.
These 19 identified labourers were from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia. They are—Budheswar Deep, Rahul Kumar, Samir Deep, Joon Kumar, Pankaj Manki, Ajay Manki, Bijay Kumar, Abhay Bhumij, Rohit Manki, Birendra Kumar, Agar Tanti, Dhiren Chetia, Rajani Naag, Deep Gowala, Ramchabak Sonar, Sonatan Naag, Sanjay Kumar, Karan Kumar and Jonas Munda.
Sources said 13 bodies have been recovered so far.
Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar has confirmed that the labourers are from Tinsukia district and went to Arunachal Pradesh for construction work of a hostel.
Tried to contact Anjaw SP Anurag Dwivedi but he is not responding to the call.
DC Swapnil Paul said, “At around 11 am we got an information that a vehicle has fallen down in a gorge in Anjau District. Accordingly we contacted the DCs of Anjaw and Teju for confirmation.”
Both the deputy commissioners of Anjaw and Tezu informed that the rescue team has so far recovered 14 bodies and 1 person alive. Seven others are still missing, DC Tinsukia confirmed.
“We have sent a team from Tinisukia comprising of Circle officers and Police personals. “They have reached Tezu and within 2-3 hours, we will receive information from the district administration,” he added.
