The Sela Tunnel project, which is being carried out by the Border Road Organisation (BRO), is aimed at providing all-weather connectivity to the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh. The project is being carried out at an altitude of 13,700 feet, and its total cost is Rs 825 crore.

This weekend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh to inaugurate the Sela Tunnel project. The foundation stone for the project was first laid by the Prime Minister in February 2019.

The Sela Tunnel project consists of two tunnels and a link road. The first tunnel, with a length of 980 metres, is a single-tube, while the second tunnel, with a length of 1,555 metres, has one bi-lane tube for traffic and one emergency service. The link road between the two tunnels is 1,200 metres long.

The Sela Tunnel project aims to provide a new alignment for military personnel and equipment movement throughout the year. It also aims to facilitate easier access to the region, which is currently disputed by China.
