Arunachal CM hails Centre's move to fence Myanmar border

Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded the recent decision by the Centre to fence the entire 1,643-kilometer-long India-Myanmar border. He expressed confidence that this strategic move would effectively curb the movement of unscrupulous elements crossing the border into Indian territory.

According to Khandu, the state-of-the-art surveillance along the border will regulate the movement of unscrupulous elements.

“A great move in the right direction to make our borders foolproof. Gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji to fence our borders along Myanmar. A state-of-the-art surveillance will check the movement of unscrupulous elements,” Khadu wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

On Thursday, Union home minister Amit Shah took to X, announcing that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recommended the suspension of the Free Movement Regime.

“It is Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s resolve to secure our borders. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided that the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar be scrapped to ensure the internal security of the country and to maintain the demographic structure of India’s North Eastern States bordering Myanmar. Since the Ministry of External Affairs is currently in the process of scrapping it, MHA has recommended the immediate suspension of the FMR,” Shah wrote on X.
