Arunachal Assembly approves bill to establish two new districts

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh assembly unanimously approved the creation of two new districts in the western and southern regions of the state during its session on Thursday.

Led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the assembly passed the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organisation of Districts) Amendment Bill, 2024, by voice vote facilitating the establishment of Keyi Panyor and Bichom districts.

This legislative move brings the total number of districts in the state to 28.

Keyi Panyor district, boasting a population exceeding 30,000 inhabitants across 195 villages, will be delineated from the Lower Subansiri district. Its administrative center will be situated in Yachuli, specifically within the Ter Gapin-Sam Sath area.

Similarly, Bichom district is slated to be formed from territories of East Kameng and West Kameng districts, with Napangphung designated as its principal district headquarters.
