Itanagar: The Women Cell of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) on Wednesday organised a crowdfunding drive for sanitary napkins in the Orchid lawn of the college here.
DNGC principal, Dr MQ khan, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students in huge numbers took part in the drive and extended their support and contribution for the cause.
Speaking at the event, Geyir Ete, the convenor of the women’s cell said that menstruation should not be looked down as a taboo but rather a positive sign indicative of the human race thriving.
“The purpose behind the drive is to spread awareness and remove the stigma related to menstruation,” she said.
Ete also highlighted how the funds raised will be used for the benefit of more than 1800 female students of the college.
“In case of an emergency, the girl students can approach the women’s cell for pads, undergarments and wrappers/skirts,” she said.
Dr Khan commended the initiative taken by the women’s cell.
It is high time to normalise the discussion related to menstruation and not to consider it as something inappropriate to talk about, he said.
Besides the faculty members of various departments lending their full support, Dr Taro Sindik of the Hindi department and assistant professor Goli Nyodu of the English serenaded throughout the event, encouraging everyone to come and donate for the fundraiser.
