Agartala: A bearaved father from Tripura’s Khowai district has approached a local court alleging that police officials filed a prosecution-related report against his son more than three years after his death.

The complainant, Krishnapada Datta, a resident of Mahadeb Tilla and member of the Khowai Deed Writers’ Association, accused four police personnel of serious procedural misconduct in connection with a case involving his deceased son, Debashish Datta.

According to the complaint, Debashish was arrested by police in 2021 in connection with an NDPS case. His father alleged that the case was fabricated and claimed that his son spent nearly three-and-a-half months in jail before being granted bail.

Datta further alleged that his son’s health deteriorated during the period of incarceration. Following his release, Debashish reportedly underwent treatment at a private nursing facility in the Behala area of Kolkata, where he died on June 24, 2022.

Despite his death, the complainant alleged that Khowai police submitted a Prosecution Report (PR) before a court on November 7, 2025 naming Debashish as a potential threat to public order.

The report, identified as PR No. 2226/25, allegedly described the deceased as a “threat” in the Mahadebtilla area and claimed he could create disturbances at any time. The report also reportedly labelled him a drug peddler.

Questioning how a person who died in 2022 could be portrayed as an active threat in 2025, Krishnapada Datta moved the court seeking legal action against the police personnel involved.

The complaint, registered as CR 7/2026, names the officer-in-charge of Khowai Police Station, the second officer and two other police personnel as accused.

According to the complainant, the court has directed the four police personnel to submit their responses by May 28.
