Agartala: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday carried out simultaneous raids at several locations in Tripura as part of its ongoing crackdown on financial crimes and suspected land mafia networks.

The operation, launched in the early hours, focused on West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, where multiple premises were searched under heavy security cover provided by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

Among the properties raided were the residence of Mihir Debnath in Agartala, the AD Nagar houses of Mampi Ghosh and Sawarup Banik, the Nalchar home of Hardhan Baidya in Sepahijala, and the Khayerpur residence of Utpal Kumar Chowdhury.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the searches are linked to suspected cases of money laundering, financial fraud, and illegal land dealings. While no formal statement has been issued by the ED so far, intelligence inputs suggest the exercise is aimed at seizing documents, tracing unaccounted wealth, and freezing assets linked to ongoing investigations.

The Tripura raids form part of a broader effort by the ED in the Northeast. Earlier this year, in January 2025, the agency had mounted similar operations in connection with drug trafficking and other financial irregularities.

Authorities are expected to share further details once the scrutiny of seized materials is completed.
