Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday revealed that over Rs 800 crore is being spent on implementing the Bru resettlement pact. Initially, the Central Government sanctioned Rs 600 crore for the project, but the allocation was later increased, Dr. Saha pointed out.
Dr. Saha highlighted that the recently concluded Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) would significantly benefit Tripura and other Northeastern states, as such meetings facilitate the region’s development.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Saha said that during the 72nd Plenary Session of the NEC, all Chief Ministers and Governors from the Northeastern states attended, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of Tripura.
“Many people were not fully aware of Tripura. The representatives who visited gained insights into Tripura’s bamboo industry, agarwood potential, road infrastructure, and tourism sector. This is a significant achievement for us. Additionally, meetings on NESAC and the Bankers’ Summit were held, with bankers from across the country participating. This provides a tremendous advantage. Over Rs 800 crore is being allocated for the Bru resettlement. Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally inspected the work and progress of the Bru project. Such events open avenues for more development initiatives. Today, Tripura has earned a place on the world map, and we are reaping the benefits,” he stated.
Dr. Saha also informed that various issues were discussed during the NEC session, including law and order and the current situation in Bangladesh.
“We presented the prevailing conditions in Bangladesh, the status of border fencing, and details about the deployment of BSF, Tripura Police, and CRPF personnel. I also outlined the additional resources and support we need in the coming days. Everything has been noted and will be deliberated further. This meeting will bolster inter-state coordination. We emphasized creating a drug-free Northeast, addressed our demands, and highlighted ongoing developmental works. The attending Chief Ministers presented their respective development priorities. The opposition should recognize and commend us for successfully hosting such a significant event in Tripura,” said Dr. Saha.
