Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday hit out at the Communist Party and claimed that the Government of Tripura under the Left only protected the interest of its party cadres.
“For the last 25 years, the cadre-system shackled the whole state. When BJP government came to power in 2018, the whole scenario changed and the cadre-culture was practically wiped out of Tripura’s governance,” Said the Union Home Minister.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of state’s first Cooperative conferences held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan Agartala.
“Tripura has 3,138 actice Cooperative societies out of which none could make profit. The reason is similar here as well. All the Cooperative societies had been turned into centres of cadre employment. For the first time, a cooperative society could emrge profit making after the BJP government was formed in 2018,” Shah added.
Claiming implementation of Bru pact in Tripura as one of the most satisfying experiences of his political career, the Union Minister said, “For 25 years internally displaced Brus despite being Indian citizens deprived of basic amenities and rights. Today, I am extremely happy to say that all these 38,000 families are now residing in pucca houses. Facilities like toilets, clean drinking water, gas cylinders etc have been made available for the Brus. Now construction of Madhyamik level schools in all the Bru settlements is also underway.”
The Union Home Minister also asserted that the per capita income of people in Tripura has also registered a steep rise.
“There was a time, when the per capita income of Tripura used to be around Rs 58,000 which has now skyrocketed to 1,77,000. Progress and development in the state are transforming each and every household,” he added.
Speaking on Cooperatives, Shah said, “Cooperative societies have a big role to play in every sector, especially in healthcare and agriculture. Under the financial assistance of NABARD, we have started five mobile Grameen Marts in five districts. A total of 50 Primary Cooperative societies affiliated to the Cooperative Bank will receive micro ATMs for cash transactions at their doorstep. Apart from that, we have also started Tripura’s first Cooperative petrol pump here in the state.”
Urging the farmers of the state to adopt organic farming at a greater scale, the Union Home Minister said, “Around 70 percent of the agricultural goods produced in Tripura are organic in nature but due to absence of proper certification mechanism, the farmers are not getting the adequate price. I want to urge all the farmers to register with National Cooperatives Organic Limited (NCOL) and fetch 30 percent higher prices.”
Shah also announced that 2000 MT capacity Cooperative Go-downs will also come in in all Tehsils.
Earlier on the day, Shah visited a Bru camp at Ambassa under Dhalai district to inspect the progress of Bru pact implementation from ground zero.
