Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Sunday that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned ₹200 crore to establish a state-of-the-art drug de-addiction centre in the state. Speaking at the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony for several projects in Udaipur, Gomati district, Dr. Saha revealed that the centre will be located in Bishramganja, Sepahijala district.
“The drug de-addiction centre will be a cutting-edge facility equipped with advanced treatment technologies and modern mechanisms. This ambitious project, funded by the DoNER Ministry, will significantly bolster Tripura’s fight against drug abuse and its associated challenges,” said Dr. Saha.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services. Praising the medical team at GB Pant Hospital for their success in performing two kidney transplant surgeries, he remarked, “A kidney transplant typically costs between ₹35 lakh and ₹40 lakh. At GB Pant Hospital, patients didn’t have to spend a single penny. This marks a significant achievement in Tripura’s healthcare sector.”
Dr. Saha noted that nine super-specialty units have been added to the hospital’s super-specialty block. The state government has also amended service rules for doctors, introducing separate grade pay for specialist and super-specialist doctors to ensure competitive salaries.
“Many specialist doctors from Tripura were reluctant to return earlier due to the lack of a dedicated grade pay system. This reform has addressed their concerns,” he said.
Dr. Saha also expressed his ambition to introduce liver and bone marrow transplantation services at GB Pant Hospital. “Liver transplantation is a complex procedure that requires extensive preparatory measures. I have initiated discussions with senior doctors in this field. Additionally, we aim to introduce bone marrow transplantation to further enhance critical care facilities in the state,” he added.
These developments underscore the Tripura government’s commitment to improving healthcare and combating drug abuse in the region.
