Agartala: Tripura Human Rights Commission has asked the Director General of Police to submit a detailed report on the death of an individual during the communal tension in Kadamtala.
The wife of the deceased person has submitted a complaint with the THRC stating that her husband lost his life in police firing, but the cops argued that the firing was opened by some miscreants.
The Police were directed to file their response within four weeks time.
“Received a complaint submitted by one Swapna Begam, w/o Lt. Alfeshani Ahmed of Jhurjuri, Kadamtala, PO: Kadamtala, North Tripura, alleging that on 06/10/2024 there was a tragic incident occurred at Dharmanagar, where, communal clash between two groups of people escalated and in attempt to restore law & order, police open fired and as a result her husband Alfeshani Ahmed received injury and succumbed to the injuries on the spot. Police has alleged that her husband’s death resulted from the miscreants firing and that was false. She lodged an FIR before O/C Kadamtala PS on 02/11/2024 but police did not take any action,” an order issued by the THRC reads.
A similar complaint was also filed by CPIM(L) leader Partha Karmakar. “Another complaint is also received which is submitted by one Partha Karmakar, Secretary, Tripura State Committee, CPI (M-L) Liberation, Agartala, West Tripura on the same issue and substantially making the same allegation. So, both the complaints are tagged together,” the order added.
Taking cognizance on both the complaints, the human rights body said: “The Cognizance is taken on the basis of the allegations made in the complaint and accordingly, the DGP, Tripura is directed to cause an inquiry into the allegations made in the complaint and to submit a detailed report within 4(four) weeks. Send a copy of this order along with the copies of complaints to the DGP, Tripura for action in terms of the order.”
