Agartala: Tripura Police on Monday registered a case against seven to eight individuals accused of disrobing and assaulting a woman on allegations of moral misconduct. The woman, reportedly married, was allegedly found in a compromising situation with a man in the Bagber area of Sepahijala district.
Video footage available with EastMojo shows the woman being forcefully dragged out of a room where she was discovered with her partner. She endured brutal physical assault, and her attempts to cover herself were prevented by the assailants, who subsequently tied her to a pole and subjected her to further public humiliation.
Some of the accused recorded the incident on mobile phones, and although the videos were not circulated on social media, they were widely shared on WhatsApp from Sunday onwards.
The woman filed a formal complaint at Kalamchoura police station on Sunday, leading to the registration of a case on Monday. According to her complaint, seven to eight individuals were involved, most of whom are reportedly relatives of her husband.
Speaking about the case, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalamchoura police station, Naru Gopal Deb, stated, “We have registered the case following the victim’s complaint filed on Sunday. An initial inquiry has led to the case registration. Seven to eight individuals have been named in the complaint, most of whom are indeed her husband’s relatives. Her husband is abroad for work, and in his absence, she reportedly became involved in a relationship with another person.”
When asked about arrests, Deb said, “The investigation has begun, and arrests of the accused will follow soon.”
