Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman issued a stern message to Bangladesh, reminding the country of its history and urging an end to the persecution of minorities.
Speaking at a rally in South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision, Debbarman addressed those involved in the targeted violence, calling on them to “drop their weapons” and condemning the interim government of Bangladesh for its failure to protect minority communities.
Continuing his tirade against the interim government in Bangladesh, Debbarman said, “Bangladesh came into existence only fifty year ago but our people had been staying there since time immemorial. A vast area of what is now Bangladesh was under the control of the Manikya dynasty. Today, my heart is filled with pain when I see our people are being attacked in their own land. Be it Hindu Bengalis, Tiprasas, Christians, Garos, Khasis, Muslims or Buddhists; all our brothers and sisters are facing atrocities and the incumbent government has failed miserably to protect the minorities.”
Debbarman was addressing a rally at South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision. The rally was organised by his party to express solidarity against the religious and ethnic minorities of Bangladesh who had been facing violence since the fall of Sheikh Hasina regime. Stating that places of worship of different faiths were under attack, Debbarman urged the people to exert pressure on the Government of India to expose Bangladesh in the highest international forum.
“The government of India has been silent for a long time. If we don’t take any action, the targeted attacks on the minorities will never stop. The people who are at the receiving end of the violence on the other side of the fencing must not feel that they have been left on their own. This is the high time to compel the Government of India to take robust steps. I urge upon everyone to write letters to your MLAs, MPs and if required to the Prime Minister. I would also write a letter to the highest authority. The whole world should be aware of what minorities are facing in Bangladesh. And, only the government of India can do this,” he added.
According to Debbarman, if Bangladesh doesn’t stop the attacks on the minorities, it should be geographically disintegrated likewise Bangladesh attained liberation from Pakistan.
“Without Tripura’s cooperation and participation, Bangladesh liberation army could have never waged such an assault. India was the country that liberated Bangladesh and now the latter is rewarding the former with red eyes. They shouldn’t forget that India has the strength to break Bangladesh and establish a whole new country,” Debbarman has said.
The ex-Congressman also claimed that the minorities in India would never stand in favour of the disgraceful activities that the Muslims of Bangladesh are indulged in.

“The Muslims of India are totally different. In Tripura to be specific, Maharajas succeeded to inculcate an ingrained culture of communal harmony. This is why a large number of religious minorities have turned up here to express their solidarity towards the victims of religious violence.
The assailants want nothing but to capture the properties owned by the minorities which is a gross violation of their rights,” said Debbarman. Shah Alam, the president of Tipra Motha Party’s minority wing said, “The whole Muslim community of Tripura is seeking justice for the distressed people. We shall not rest until and unless the violence is stopped,” he added. A significant number of Muslim supporters of the Tipra Motha Party attended the rally.
