Agartala: Authorities of Tripura Central Correctional Home located in Bishalgarh seized a significant number of Biri packets from the possession of a Tripura State Rifles trooper posted there.
It is alleged that he had been carrying those items for the inmates in order to earn some extra money out of his salary. He was caught red-handed on Wednesday and later closed to the headquarters of 11th Battalion located at Pathaliaghat.
The accused soldier is identified as Anjan Das. The jail authorities had been following him after several complaints surfaced against him.
Sources revealed that Das exploited his position to supply intoxicants to prisoners. A video clip of Das being searched by jail police authorities and recoving Biri packets went viral on social media platforms. It prompted the authorities to order an internal inquiry.
Speaking on the issue, sub-divisional magistrate Bishalgarh, Rakesh Chakraborty, said, “The accused TSR Jawan was withdrawn from his post of duty following the incident.
Additionally, an internal inquiry has been ordered, with the Deputy Superintendent of the jail overseeing the investigation, to ascertain as to how the video went viral.
The people who are responsible for making the video and later leaking it on the internet have been issued show cause notices. The inquiry report is likely to reach my office by the end of this day.”
