Agartala: The Government of Tripura on Thursday launched a mobile application to monitor services provided to beneficiaries, particularly women and children, through Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) under the Social Welfare and Social Education department.
The app, equipped with geo-tagging, was developed to streamline the attendance of Anganwadi workers and enhance service delivery in rural areas.
“The app can only be accessed within the premises of Anganwadi centres. While the central government has launched a similar app, ours includes a geo-tagging feature. In contrast, the central app allowed workers to submit daily reports from anywhere, which could lead to manipulation of the centre’s operational timings,” said Tripura Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy.
In addition to tracking attendance, workers are required to upload photographs of children receiving food, classes, and services like food grain distribution for pregnant women and children under three years old for monitoring purposes.
“The app aims to effectively monitor 10,000 Anganwadi Centres. Given the vast network, it is impossible for supervisors to physically visit every location weekly,” the minister explained.
Roy also announced plans to upgrade all Anganwadi Centres into smart centres, with some already operational in Dhalai district. These centres will feature improved amenities such as clean drinking water, electricity, gardens, and play areas.
Currently, more than four lakh children are enrolled in Anganwadi Centres across Tripura.
