Agartala: Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday hinted at big post-poll development stating that some of the MLAs from the opposition camp have been working to ensure that the BJP candidates could register a decent lead from their assembly segments.
According to Nath, INDIA bloc candidates are all set to lose their security deposits on June 4. “The opposition candidates haven’t done anything based on which they can seek votes. The CPIM which is now the principal opposition party would not have the desired numbers to maintain its status after the Lok Sabha elections. Similarly, the Congress which has three MLAs now will see a fall in its strength. For the time being, Congress will have one MLA but in the next assembly elections, they will draw a blank. This is what I can say for now,” Nath told media persons after leading a massive bike rally in the Ramnagar assembly constituency.
Nath was flanked by his cabinet colleague Sushanta Choudhury and candidate for Ramnagar assembly constituency Dipak Majumder.
When asked whether the opposition MLAs are in touch with the BJP, he said, “Yes, they are. After elections, the opposition camp will suffer major blows due to defections of leaders and MLAs.”
Citing instances of political killings that happened when the Left was in power, Nath said, the BJP government brought about a scheme for the families who lost their lives in the political conflicts between Congress and CPIM. “The victims of political killings in Tripura had never been members of the BJP. They were Congress supporters. In spite of that, our government gave jobs to many people who belonged to those families. We are also considering reopening the cases that were intentionally not investigated properly. But, we all know reopening 20-year-old cases might not turn out to be a wise call as retrieving the evidence becomes a tough job,” said Nath.
