Tripura: Election Commission warns BJP nominee, CPIM leader

Agartala: The Election Commission of India has served a warning notice to Kriti Devi Debbarma, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, for her statement on the CPIM party that reportedly violated the Model Code of Conduct.

The notice was issued followed by a thorough investigation by the sector officer and Assistant Returning Officer. Based on the findings of the investigation, the notice was served to the Tipra Motha-backed BJP candidate.

According to the complaint lodged by CPIM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury, the BJP candidate branded CPIM as a “party of killers” during an election campaign rally at the Fatikroy assembly segment of Unakoti district.

Kriti Singh Debbarman is the elder sister of Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.

Meanwhile, a CPIM leader of Kailashahar was also served a notice for passing sweeping remarks on Kriti Devi Singh Debbarman.

CPIM divisional committee secretary of Kailashahar (under Unakoti District) reportedly likened BJP’s East Tripura candidate to “stray animals that destroy cropland.”
