Manipur: One killed in Kangpokpi by suspected armed militants

Agartala: In a shocking incident, a woman was killed by her husband in the Gourangatilla area under the jurisdiction of Kalyanpur police station in the Khowai district of Tripura.

According to the police, the deceased sustained multiple injuries on their head, and fractures on their hand and legs after being brutally clubbed by her husband. She succumbed to the injuries at GBP Hospital Agartala on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Pratima Nath Chowdhury. She was 26. Her husband, Pradip Nath Chowdhury, had been detained by the police soon after the incident.
He reportedly rained heavy blows on the victim using wooden clubs in a fit of rage that inflicted fatal injuries on the deceased.

Initially admitted to Khowai Hospital, her critical condition warranted her transfer to GBP Hospital, where her battle for life ended.

Tapas Malakar, the Officer-in-Charge of Kalyanpur police station, said, “Prima facie evidence suggests that an altercation between the couple escalated into a violent confrontation, ultimately resulting in Pratima’s demise. During preliminary questioning, the accused husband admitted to his involvement in the assault.”

The couple was tied into the nuptial knot in 2017. The conjugal relations deteriorated over time, leading to domestic tensions. Pratima leaves behind a daughter.

A specific case is being registered in this regard. The accused is under police custody.
