Agartala: Left Front candidate for the Ramnagar by-elections in Tripura, Ratan Das, has appealed to voters in his constituency to support him in becoming their voice in the Tripura legislative assembly.
Highlighting issues such as the soaring prices of essentials, the scarcity of employment opportunities, and what he described as the “unprecedented stagnation” of development in Tripura, the former MLA emphasized the significance of these concerns as major poll planks.
Das asserted, “While this by-election may not directly impact the government, the people of Ramnagar must understand that as the principal opposition party in the state, we have a pivotal role to play. The voters of Tripura opted for change in the 2023 assembly elections. The significant decrease in the ruling party’s vote share and the number of seats signifies how voters have lost confidence in the BJP.”
Das started his door-to-door campaign in the run-up to the by-election slated on April 19 next. The Ramnagar assembly constituency will witness dual elections as the voters of the area will cast their votes to elect the MP for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency as well.
During his campaign, Das has also thrown his support behind Ashish Kumar Saha, the INDIA bloc candidate for West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, who also serves as the president of the Congress unit in Tripura.
Addressing the media, Das said, “Development activities at the grassroots level have come to a standstill. Much of the critical public infrastructure in Ramnagar was established during the Left’s tenure. However, the current scenario is marked by rising essential prices, and a dearth of employment opportunities under schemes like MGNREGA and TUEP, pushing many people to the margins.
The rural economy is in crisis, and it seems the government is turning a blind eye to these issues. A robust opposition is necessary to compel the ruling party to listen to the voices from the ground and address the pressing concerns of the people.”
