Agartala: Amidst the standoff between Tripura and Mizoram in the disputed Phuldungsei village in Kanchnpur sub-division under North district, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said if there is any dispute that Mizoram sees in the inter-state border with Assam and Tripura, they can solve the issue by approaching the centre.

Speaking with reporters, Deb said that the dispute of any inter-state border is resolved by the union ministry of home affairs (MHA) under federal system.

“The border is demarcated according to the map which is already available and if any government has an objection then they can take up the issue with the centre. We are separate states but a part of India. Fight among each other does not look good so. If they feel the border should be re-demarcated, they can simply place the issue with the MHA”, Deb said.

He also said that the Tripura government had not done anything, yet they have solved the matter officially. He added that this is how it should end rather than interfering physically, adding, “The country is ours and we can go anywhere and anybody can come here,” he said.

The chief minister also appealed to the citizens to keep supporting the federal system of the country and nobody should violate the last demarcated border. This is what the constitution of India says and the Tripura government is working in the same direction, Deb opined.

Speaking further, Deb said that once there was restriction in J&K due to 370 and Article 35 (A), but the PM and home minister have resolved the issue.

“Tripura works on a positive note and that we have shown by accepting thousands of Brus displaced people in Tripura even though we were already the second largest population in the region after Assam,” Deb added.

On October 11, the Mizoram government had raised an objection to the construction of a temple in Phuldungsei village, stating that the construction of Mandir (temple) in the disputed inter-state border village could result into law and order problems and sought immediate and indefinite stop to the proposed building.

The Mizoram state had imposed Section-144 with effect from October 16 restricting public movement along the border region. However, after the Tripura government took a tough stance against the prohibitory order issued by the Mamit district administration along the inter-state bordering village, Mizoram revoked Section 144 from Phuldungsei within 48 hours.
