A widespread glitch in Microsoft Windows 10 systems has left hundreds of thousands of users affected globally. The issue, characterised by the notorious Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), has prompted a flood of social media posts showing the error screens, as people express their frustration and concern.
The glitch has disrupted not only routine office work but also critical operations in places such as airports. Early reports suggest that the issue stems from a recent update issued by CrowdStrike, a US-based cybersecurity company.
Affected users are seeing a Recovery Page with the message, “The windows did not load correctly.” In India, major airlines like Akasa Air and Indigo have reported problems with their check-in systems due to the CrowdStrike update. Microsoft has yet to respond to the situation.
CrowdStrike has acknowledged the issue in a support note, stating, “We have widespread reports of BSODs on Windows hosts, occurring on multiple sensor versions.” However, further details have not been provided.
In Europe, Ryanair has warned of “potential disruptions across the network (Fri 19 July) due to a global 3rd party system outage,” and has apologised for any inconvenience caused. Similarly, Akasa Air has issued an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating that due to infrastructure issues with their service provider, some online services, including booking and check-in, are temporarily unavailable. The airline is currently using manual check-in and boarding processes.

According to a report by Guardian Australia, the glitch has affected businesses including banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters, and supermarkets. This widespread impact is reportedly due to the CrowdStrike Falcon suite of software, which manages cybersecurity defence on affected systems. Not all Windows 10 computers have been impacted, only those running the Falcon software.
A cybersecurity expert on X noted, “CrowdStrike Falcon agents are imploding right now and causing a Blue Screen of Death boot loop on every endpoint. Reports of massive outages globally.”
