In a significant move on Sunday, Nvidia announced a series of new products and services aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) innovations for desktops. The tech giant introduced its RTX AI Toolkit, designed for developers to create applications and experiences on its platform, and showcased a tech demo for Project G-Assist, an AI assistant with extensive gaming knowledge. Additionally, Nvidia hinted at the upcoming “RTX AI PC” gaming laptops from Asus and MSI, which will incorporate Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC features.
In a blog post, Nvidia stated, “Newly announced RTX AI PC laptops from ASUS and MSI feature up to GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs and power-efficient systems-on-a-chip with Windows 11 AI PC capabilities. These Windows 11 AI PCs will receive a free update to Copilot+ PC experiences when available.” Although Nvidia did not elaborate on what specifically constitutes an RTX AI PC, it emphasised several AI accelerations its GPU platforms will enable for laptops set to launch throughout the year.
Nvidia also confirmed that these laptops would receive Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC features via a free update “when available,” indicating that features such as Recall and Cocreate might not be available at launch but could be added later. According to a report by The Verge, these laptops will be equipped with AMD’s latest Strix CPUs.
This distinction is noteworthy given Microsoft’s recent announcement of its collaboration with Snapdragon for its Arm-based chipsets, which was highlighted during the Build event. It is expected that these features will remain exclusive to Snapdragon chipsets for a certain period, as they utilise integrated Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for AI tasks.

Nvidia also emphasised that its GPUs are better suited for handling more substantial AI workloads compared to NPUs. This comparison is likely based on Microsoft’s information that its in-house NPUs can manage 50 trillion operations per second (TOPS), whereas Nvidia GPUs can handle up to 1,000 TOPS. However, a downside of GPUs is their higher power consumption, whereas NPUs are optimised for performance.
The gaming laptops from Asus and MSI, branded as RTX AI PCs, are anticipated to be available in July. However, it remains unclear when they will be upgraded to the Copilot+ PCs category.
