The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has given clearance for the 126th meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) to train Mirabai Chanu at the LA FERTE-MILON in Paris. The silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 will head to Paris one month ahead of the Olympics to acclimatise to the weather and prepare for the mega event.
During her training in Paris, Mirabai will be accompanied by two coaches and a physiotherapist. The expenses of air travel, visa, accommodation, food, training, local transport, medical insurance, and sauna will be covered under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding.
The country’s other decision-makers have also approved the proposal of Equestrian player Anush Agarwalla to compete in eight competitions and buy equipment for his horses. The funding will be used to cover the cost of accommodation, entry fees, two horse feed costs, coach fees, and horse grooms.
The Indian Tennis starlet Sumit Nagal has also been given financial assistance to participate in two international competitions.
Other proposals approved during the meeting were financial assistance towards hiring a video analyst for badminton players Chirag and Satwik, extending the contract of a physiotherapist for weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga, and financial aid towards buying equipment for track athlete Amoj Jacob.
