Sikkim has been awarded the prestigious Gold category for the Best Emerging Eco-Tourism Destination at the Outlook Traveller Awards & Carnival 2024. The event, held on 30 November in New Delhi, recognised the efforts of state governments in establishing unique identities within the travel and tourism sector.
The awards ceremony brought together industry leaders, travel brands, influencers, and tourism experts to celebrate excellence in innovation, sustainability, and exceptional service. The accolade honours destinations that have set benchmarks for eco-tourism while promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The award for Best Emerging Eco-Tourism Destination was presented by the Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand, Satpal Maharaj. Representing Sikkim, N. Sridhar Rao, IPS, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and Peden Bhutia, Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) from the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim, received the honour on behalf of the state.
