In a significant development in the ongoing war against drugs, police personnel on duty at the Ramam Check Post intercepted a vehicle transporting a large quantity of contraband substances on 15 July 2024 at approximately 21:15. The vehicle, bearing registration number SK 04 J1065, was travelling from Siliguri to Pelling, Gyalshing, when it was stopped for a routine check at the interstate border.
Upon receiving the information, Sub-Inspector Norkey Lachenpa, currently in charge of Nayabazar Police Station, rushed to the Ramam Check Post. Additionally, Police Inspector Lata Bardewa from Soreng Police Station was directed to assist in the investigation. The investigation revealed that the vehicle, along with its driver and passengers, was intercepted at the Ramam Check Post by the active-duty police officers. Two independent witnesses, Anil Pradhan (26), son of Bal Bahadur Pradhan from Mabong, and Anil Tamang (47), son of Krishna Bdr Tamang from Guruthang, Gyalshing, were also present during the search.
A search was conducted under Section 21 of the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA), 2006, in the presence of the aforementioned witnesses and the government official. The search led to the recovery of several items, including a black plastic pouch containing 620 loose blue capsules labelled “WINDLAS Winspasmo Forte,” suspected to be Spasmo Proxyvon, another black plastic pouch containing 116 loose blue capsules of the same type, a cream paper pouch containing 17 loose blue capsules labelled “WINDLAS Winspasmo Forte,” and a light green backpack with a Brazil (blue and yellow coloured) jersey sticker and an Adidas logo, including a Brazil keychain. The entire procedure was photographed, and the case exhibits were packed and sealed on the spot in the presence of the witnesses, whose signatures were also obtained.

The contraband substances were found to belong to Anil Thapa (26), son of Bimal Thapa from Duka Busty, Kagey Khasmahal, Pedong Darjeeling, West Bengal, currently residing in Pelling, Gyalshing. Anil Thapa, who was travelling from Siliguri to Pelling, could not produce a valid prescription for the possession of the controlled substances. As a result, a case has been registered against Anil Thapa under Nayabazar Police Station Case FIR No. 13/2024, dated 15 July 2024, under Sections 7/9(c) of the SADA, 2006, read with Section 9(1)(c) of the SADA Amendment Act, 2017. Anil Thapa has been arrested, and the necessary seizures have been made. The case is currently under active investigation.
