Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister and SKM president PS Golay conducted an election campaign public meeting dubbed ‘Vijayee Bhawa: Jan Sabha’ at Rorathang in Pakyong district on Sunday to bolster support for the upcoming elections.
The meeting focused on five constituencies within Pakyong district, including Rhenock, where Golay stands as the SKM candidate. Alongside Golay, prominent SKM figures such as Lok Sabha candidate Indra Hang Subba and candidates for other constituencies were present.
Addressing the attendees, Golay reiterated SKM’s determination to secure victory across all 32 Assembly constituencies and the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim. He emphasized the government’s track record of service and promised continued dedication if re-elected.
Golay highlighted the establishment of new districts in Pakyong and Soreng as a response to longstanding demands for improved administrative access and localized development. He pledged swift attention to those yet to benefit from government initiatives once SKM forms the government.
Regarding his electoral constituency, Golay promised regular engagement with the public and the establishment of oversight committees to ensure development in Rhenock.
In a veiled criticism of the opposition, Golay emphasized SKM’s youthfulness and ability to yield fruitful results, contrasting it with what he termed as the stagnant approach of other parties. He also criticized the absence of female candidates from the SDF and assured the public about the government’s capability to manage finances.
Taking to social media, Golay urged voters to support SKM symbolised by the table lamp, symbolising progress and development.
Meanwhile, SKM Lok Sabha candidate Indra Hang Subba confidently asserted the electorate’s rejection of SDF Lok Sabha candidate PD Rai. Indra Hang emphasised his own advocacy for Sikkimese issues and credited SKM’s leadership for removing derogatory tags on the Sikkimese Nepali community. He criticised opposition parties for exploiting issues like tribal status demands for political mileage.
Indra Hang vowed to continue fighting for pending political demands if re-elected.
The upcoming elections in Sikkim appear poised for heightened competition as parties intensify their campaigns, with SKM projecting confidence in its prospects.
