Pelling: Sikkim Chief Minister, Prem Singh Golay, has unveiled the Sikkim Sishu Samridhi Yojana, promising a sum of Rs 10,800 to every newborn in the state upon turning 18. Golay made this announcement on the inaugural day of the 3-day Jan Bharosha Samellan in the Soreng and Geyzing districts on Monday. This initiative follows the Mero Rukh Mero Santiti campaign, wherein 108 trees are planted for each newborn in Sikkim, to address the declining birth rate in the state.
The Jan Bharosha Samellan, a 3-day outreach program initiated by the state government, commenced with Chief Minister Golay’s address in the districts of Geyzing and Soreng in West Sikkim. Over the next three days, the program will extend its reach to all six districts of the state.
On the first day of the Samellan, Golay distributed tokens to beneficiaries of various government schemes, including the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana, house upgradation, inverter distribution, start-up schemes, the Aaama scheme, irrigation water tanks, pipes, power tillers, and resource recovery vehicles.
Beneficiaries hailed from the constituencies of Yuksam-Tashiding, Yangthang, Maneybong-Dentam, and Gyalshing-Bernyak in the Gyalshing district, as well as from Soreng-Chakung, Rinchenpong, Zoom-Salghari, and Daramdin in the Soreng district. The Rural Development Department of the Government of Sikkim organized the event.
During his address in Pelling, Golay announced the upcoming inauguration of the CM Sanchaman Limboo Degree College and the Kyongsa football ground on March 8th in Geyzing.
Regarding employment, Golay stated, “On February 29, over 25,000 temporary employees will receive office memorandums. This decision was ratified during a cabinet meeting on February 20. The source of funds for these salaries is of no concern to the opposition. Before making this announcement, consultations were held with the Finance Department, which I oversee. Therefore, employees need not worry.”
Golay assured that the process of regularizing temporary employees with four years of government service will continue, refuting opposition claims that this action is merely an “election stunt.” He emphasized that their approach is different from the Janta Mela events of the previous government, which occurred shortly before the elections. Golay stated, “Ours is Jan Bharosa, aimed at fostering trust between the government and the public, and is not driven by electoral motives like those of the previous administration. The people must decide whether they prefer a deceitful government or one that is committed to serving.”
Moreover, Golay announced initiatives aimed at empowering mothers and enhancing their financial independence. Under the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, eligible mothers will receive increased financial assistance, with the government doubling the amount to Rs. 40,000 distributed in two installments. Additionally, the Sikkim Aama Sahayog Yojana was introduced to ease the financial burden on mothers by providing subsidies for LPG cylinders and ensuring access to essential cooking resources.
In efforts to boost the tourism sector, the Chief Minister announced financial support for the development of homestays, emphasizing the preservation and promotion of Sikkimese and Nepali culture.

In the Soreng district, Golay inaugurated the Nagar Van in Barbotey, aiming to increase tree cover to maximize carbon stock and mitigate the adverse effects of urbanization. He also inaugurated a fire station in Singling, Yuma Mangheem in Wokheng dedicated to the Limboo tribe, a rurban (rural-urban) community complex in Pega, and an indoor gymnasium hall in Jautar under the Soreng district.
