Wipro Limited hosted the 15th edition of the Wipro earthian Awards 2025 at Azim Premji University in Bengaluru, recognising schools and colleges across India for their engagement with sustainability education and practices.
The Wipro earthian programme, which promotes integrated sustainability learning, received more than 2,000 submissions in 2025. An independent jury selected 25 winning teams whose projects addressed themes related to biodiversity, waste, and water through a combination of field-based activities and written analysis. Among the selected teams, four schools from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland were recognised for their work.
From Assam, Auniati Kamaldev Higher Secondary School, Guwahati, was awarded for a project examining local water challenges, traditional conservation practices, and community perspectives on water management. Students carried out water quality testing at IIT Guwahati and shared their findings to raise awareness about safe drinking water. The school also organised workshops in collaboration with IIT Guwahati and documented traditional water preservation methods through interviews with local residents and elders, alongside observations on the effects of climate change.
North Guwahati Girls’ High School, Guwahati, was recognised for a project focused on understanding local ecosystems and encouraging responsible environmental behaviour. Students documented biodiversity at school and at home, and extended their work into the community through activities such as the Save Gangetic River Dolphin campaign, vulture conservation art, bird nest making, and neem soap preparation with self-help groups. They also reared stingless Melipona bees on campus to study pollination and conducted interviews with fishermen and ferry passengers to understand community views on ecosystem services. The project included creative outputs, such as a wall mural painted with natural dyes.

Intaya Public School, Ezengo, Arunachal Pradesh, received the award for a biodiversity study conducted in the school campus and the Lower Dibang Valley. The project involved documenting local flora and fauna and comparing microhabitats to assess the impact of human activity on bird diversity. Students linked biodiversity to food security, water sustainability, and cultural identity, drawing on Traditional Ecological Knowledge, including Mishmi folk tales about tigers and a seasonal calendar created in the Idu language. The project also involved storytelling and the creation of insect habitats using recycled materials.
From Nagaland, PM Shri GHS Kiruphema was recognised for surveying water sources on the school campus and in Peducha village, identifying variations in water quality. Students interacted with local farmers to understand everyday water use and created 3D models to demonstrate concepts related to sustainability and water conservation, including rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, and basic water purification methods.
Certificates and cash prizes were presented to the winning teams by Anurag Behar, Chief Executive Officer of the Azim Premji Foundation, and Narayan P. S., Global Head of Sustainability and Societal Initiatives at Wipro Limited and Managing Trustee of the Wipro Foundation.
“The strength of the Wipro earthian program lies in grounding sustainability in lived reality, helping students understand water stress through nearby lakes and rivers, biodiversity through neighborhood species, and waste through everyday community practices,” Narayan P. S. said. “Across regions and schools, students have moved well beyond awareness to sustained engagement, approaching real environmental challenges with curiosity, rigor, and empathy. Their work reflects a deep understanding of sustainability as a shared responsibility. At a time when global crises can feel distant or overwhelming, it reinforces an essential principle that meaningful care for the planet begins at home.”
Launched in 2011, Wipro earthian has engaged more than 51,000 schools, 210,000 students, and 41,000 teachers across India. The programme has expanded through collaborations with organisations including CEE, CPREEC, Wild Ecologues, IIT Madras, IIM Bangalore, state governments, and educators associated with the Sustainability Educators Network.
