Rupa Pegu, a talented weaver from Assam, is renowned for her exquisite fabrics created using traditional weaving techniques. A passionate artisan, Rupa inherited her love for weaving from her mother, who always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Each day, Rupa dedicates two to three hours to her craft, producing beautiful pieces that reflect her rich heritage.
However, like many artisans, Rupa faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the lockdown disrupted her income. Despite these difficulties, she found much-needed support through Impulse Social Enterprise which assisted her and other weavers, including elderly individuals, during the crisis. Grateful for this aid, Rupa also took the opportunity to expand her skills by exploring new designs and techniques through social media platforms like Facebook.
Rupa’s resilience and unwavering dedication to her craft have become a source of inspiration for her community. Today, she continues to create stunning fabrics that not only celebrate her heritage but also showcase her adaptability and growth as an artisan.
