Imphal: The curtains fell on the North East India Film Festival (NEIFF 2024) at the Palace Auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal on Thursday.
The festival, organised by THOUNA, Manipur, in association with Film Forum Manipur, Directorate of Information & Public Relations, and Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, commenced on March 3.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest of the function, M Joy Singh, Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, lauded the festival as a journey into the depths of human experience, where filmmakers from diverse backgrounds in North East India shared their unique perspectives and creativity, transcending boundaries.
Expressing appreciation for the efforts of the organisers, Singh thanked the participating filmmakers for delighting the public with their well-crafted cinematic expressions. He emphasized that the films screened during the five-day festival had not only entertained but also stirred the souls of the audience, leaving an indelible mark on their minds.
Singh expressed his hope that the influence of the films would continue to resonate within the audience, fostering dialogues and commitment to embrace diversity. He congratulated the award winners and all the participating filmmakers for their contributions in making the festival a resounding success.
The prestigious Best Film Award was clinched by “Rapture,” directed by Dominic Sangma. Haobam Paban Kumar received the Best Director award for “Joseph’s Son,” while Parthajit Baruah won the Best Screenplay award for “Nellier Kotha.” Jayant Sethu Mathavan’s cinematography in “Before Spring” earned him the Best Cinematography award, while Kuldip Baruah’s editing in “Samarpan” was recognized with the Best Editing award. Amrit Pritam and Debajit Changmai received the Best Sound Award for “Gorai Pakhri.”
Assamese films “Before Spring,” directed by Shrutismriti Changkakoti, and “Ata Nirjon Duporiya,” directed by Khanjan Kishore Nath, received the Special Jury Award and the Special Mention Award, respectively.
