Guwahati: During the financial year 2023-24, the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has made significant strides in enhancing the safety of railway tracks and ensuring a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Recently, the railway achieved three milestone targets related to track safety, surpassing expectations set by the Railway Board well before the completion of the fiscal period.

The milestones accomplished by NFR include the completion of 218 TKM (Track Kilometre) of track renewal, the installation of 123 Thick Web Switches (TWS) against a target of 100, and the insertion of 6.09 lacs cubic meters of ballast compared to the targeted 5 lacs cubic meters for the current period.

Railway track maintenance is an ongoing process crucial for enhancing safety and increasing the speed of train operations. Innovative technologies such as Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) machines are employed to detect flaws like cracks, enabling timely replacement of defective rail tracks to ensure safety.

NF Railway’s commitment to maintaining proper track conditions underscores its dedication to providing a safe and secure journey for rail passengers, coupled with improved comfort. Regular track renewal works and other safety measures within the zone are consistently undertaken to uphold this commitment.
