Churachandpur: The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Churachandpur, convened a meeting on the “Catch the Rain: Work to be done by each Department up to May 31, 2027” campaign at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by DRDA Executive Director and Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, and attended by senior district officials and heads of concerned departments, including the DFO, CEO/ADC, Project Director, DRDA, ZEO, SDOs/BDOs, and officials from PHED, WRD, PWD, Health, Agriculture and Horticulture departments.
The meeting focused on finalising works to be undertaken by each line department, identifying funding sources and mechanisms, and establishing a system to monitor and review progress through May 31, 2027.
Project Director, DRDA, Jameson Hangsing, presented proposed department-wise contributions and activities under the campaign. Officials discussed their respective roles, proposed works, funding arrangements and implementation responsibilities.
Addressing the officials, Kumar urged all departments to take concrete measures for rainwater conservation and harvesting, with particular emphasis on installing rooftop rainwater harvesting systems in all government departments and offices.
He stressed that rainwater harvesting should be treated as an essential component of water conservation rather than merely as a campaign activity.
Kumar also directed departments to adhere to the prescribed timelines for completing activities under the campaign and asked officers to ensure timely planning, execution and reporting of works assigned to them.
He further emphasised the need to identify overlaps among departmental schemes and programmes so that similar works are not undertaken or reported more than once. Such coordination, he said, would help improve accountability and ensure optimal utilisation of resources.
The Catch the Rain campaign focuses on promoting rainwater harvesting, water conservation and sustainable management of water resources through coordinated interventions by different departments, with the objective of achieving measurable progress by May 31, 2027.
