Shillong: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya Police arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized suspected heroin during an operation in Shillong’s Lumsurvey area on Monday.
According to police, the ANTF conducted an ambush operation on June 22 after receiving inputs about a suspected drug transaction in the locality.

The operation led to the arrest of Sabina Begum (21), a resident of Lumsurvey originally from Assam’s Sonitpur district, and Viru Singh (40), a resident of Punjabi Line in Bara Bazar, Shillong.
A search conducted in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act resulted in the seizure of a plastic soap box containing 16.1 grams of suspected heroin, 47 coloured vials containing suspected heroin, and a mobile phone.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act at Sadar Police Station and launched a further investigation.
According to the ANTF, the two accused are suspected to be part of a larger drug trafficking network operating in Shillong. Investigators are currently working to trace the source of the contraband and identify distribution channels linked to the case.
Officials said three cases related to narcotics trafficking have been registered in the Lumsurvey area so far this year. A total of seven people have been arrested in connection with these cases, with most of the accused reportedly hailing from Assam.
Police added that substantial quantities of heroin, along with numerous empty vials and syringes, have been seized in the cases registered from the area this year.
The ANTF said it will continue intensified surveillance in Lumsurvey and take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking and other narcotics-related offences.
