Arunachal: Cloudburst in Anini; five soldiers missing

Dibrugarh: A cloudburst in the Pashu Pani area of Anini in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday triggered a massive landslide, leaving several people, including Army personnel, affected in the area.

According to a source, two soldiers were rescued following the incident, while five others remain missing.

“Immediate rescue operations were carried out and two soldiers were rescued. Multiple rescue teams were rushed from neighbouring posts, braving inclement weather and inundation to reach the site and join the rescue operations. Five soldiers are still missing,” the source said.

Coordinated search and rescue operations are underway to locate and evacuate the missing personnel.

Army aviation assets have also been deployed to augment the rescue efforts and facilitate immediate medical evacuation, if required.

All available resources are being mobilised as part of the coordinated rescue and relief operation. The operations are continuing on priority, with further details expected after verification.

Meanwhile, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district, a major landslide struck a road construction site along the Keojaring-Byaching road, reportedly burying several people under the debris.

Four people — Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali — were reported dead in the incident.
