IIT Guwahati alumna Souraja Kundu, from the 2021–25 batch, has been selected for the prestigious 2025 Quad Fellowship, one of the world’s most competitive international programmes in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The announcement was made on 2 December in Guwahati.

This year, 37 students from 11 countries were chosen for the fellowship, with 25 Fellows placed in U.S. institutions and 12 in Japan. Kundu will pursue her Ph.D. in Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA, under the fellowship.

Souraja Kundu, who earned her B.Tech. in Electronics and Electrical Engineering and received the Governor of Assam Gold Medal during IIT Guwahati’s 27th Convocation, said the fellowship offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary STEM researchers across the world.

She credited her mentors and research experiences at IIT Guwahati for preparing her to pursue advanced research.

The Quad Fellowship provides financial support for graduate studies, global leadership training, specialised academic programming, and access to an international network of scientists, technologists, and innovators. Recipients are selected through a rigorous multi-stage process that includes an online application, expert review, and final panel interview.

The programme, established by the governments of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, aims to strengthen cross-national collaboration and develop future leaders in STEM.
