The Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop indigenous technologies aimed at enhancing India’s border surveillance and security capabilities.
The agreement was signed by M. L. Garg, Inspector General of BSF’s Rajasthan Frontier, and IIT Jodhpur Director Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, in the presence of senior officials and faculty members.
The collaboration will focus on areas including drone and anti-drone systems, AI-based surveillance, secure communication networks and smart border management solutions. According to the institutions, the partnership is intended to support the government’s push for self-reliance in defence under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

“This partnership will translate India’s scientific and technological strengths into real-world solutions for national security,” said Prof. Agarwal. Garg said the tie-up would help strengthen BSF’s surveillance and operational readiness along the borders.
The initiative will be coordinated through IIT Jodhpur’s Manekshaw Centre for National Security Studies and Research, which focuses on innovation in defence and security technology. It was facilitated with support from the BSF Institute of Communication and Information Technology in New Delhi.
The agreement marks a step towards greater collaboration between India’s academic and security institutions, with both sides aiming to develop homegrown solutions suited to the country’s evolving border management needs.
