Kohima: In a concerted effort to enforce the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, the WATSU Unit (Women Organisation) Mangkolemba, in coordination with the Mokokchung District Administration and local police, carried out a surprise inspection across shops and hotels in Mangkolemba town on July 16.
The drive uncovered multiple establishments openly flouting the NLTP Act by selling liquor illegally.
Alcoholic beverages worth an estimated Rs 40,000 were seized on the spot and subsequently destroyed by the authorities.
District officials have issued strict warnings to the offenders, stating that repeat violations could result in permanent closure of businesses and cancellation of trade licenses.
Mangkolemba’s close proximity to Assam, where liquor is easily available, has often posed challenges to the enforcement of the state’s prohibition law, contributing to the illegal inflow and sale of alcohol in the town.
The WATSU Unit has been playing an active role in supporting the district administration to curb social evils and promote peace and order within the community.
