In a ceremony held at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, on 26 December, the Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Manoj Yadava, honoured three Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) constables for their prompt and courageous actions during a critical incident on Christmas Day.
Constables Kuldeep, Rajesh Saini, and Shivraj were recognised for their swift response to a distressing situation near Rail Bhawan. On 25 December 2024, at approximately 3:15 PM, a 30-year-old man set himself on fire near the Parliament roundabout, close to the Rail Bhawan building. The man, engulfed in flames, ran toward the Parliament area, posing a significant risk to himself and others nearby.
The RPSF personnel, stationed at Gate No. 6 of Rail Bhawan, acted immediately. Using two blankets available at the gate, they extinguished the flames with the assistance of pedestrians in the vicinity. Their quick thinking and rapid action minimised risks to bystanders and prevented further escalation of the situation.
The injured man, who suffered severe burns, was promptly attended to by local police, including officers from the Kartavya Path Police Station. He was later transported to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for further medical treatment.
