UNICEF Assam, in collaboration with the Centre for Development and Peace Studies (CDPS), has announced the UNICEF-CDPS Media Awards 2025. This initiative aims to honour journalists in Assam who have significantly contributed to highlighting critical issues affecting children. The awards focus on encouraging impactful reporting across print, electronic, and digital media, recognising the essential role of the press in bringing attention to children’s welfare and societal challenges.
The awards will spotlight three key areas: efforts to address child marriage, the positive impacts of social protection schemes on ensuring continuity in girls’ education, and the work of individuals or groups influencing their communities to overcome harmful societal norms impacting children. These themes underscore the importance of raising awareness about issues that directly affect children’s lives and futures while showcasing examples of positive change.
Journalists aged between 25 and 35, residing in Assam and representing mainstream media platforms, are eligible to apply. However, the programme excludes employees from government or semi-government organisations and individuals affiliated with political parties. Applicants are required to submit a detailed Curriculum Vitae and a portfolio containing at least five published works focusing on children’s issues, with the content dated between 1 January 2023 and the present. Freelance journalists can also apply, provided they can furnish proof of publication. Additionally, applicants must provide a valid Media House or DIPR Assam-issued ID card.

A distinguished selection committee will evaluate submissions based on criteria such as originality, depth, creativity, professional credentials, and the impact of the journalist’s work. Successful applicants will be notified via email or phone and will be required to confirm their acceptance within a week of the announcement. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 24 January 2025, following a submission deadline of 15 January 2025.
