Guwahati: The Assam unit of the All India Independent Scheduled Caste Association (AIISCA) is set to make a significant mark at the Assam Book Fair 2024–25 by introducing Ambedkarite and anti-caste literature to readers in the state. This marks the first time such literature will be prominently showcased at the fair, providing a platform to connect marginalised communities with works that highlight their struggles, aspirations, and contributions.
The Assam Book Fair 2024–25, one of the largest literary events in the Northeast, will take place from December 27, 2024, to January 7, 2025, at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati. Organised jointly by the Assam Publication Council and the Assam Publishers Association, the fair is a prominent cultural event that draws thousands of book lovers annually. This year marks the fourth edition of the fair since the merger of the Guwahati Book Fair and the North East Book Fair in 2021.

AIISCA has announced its plan to set up a dedicated book stall featuring literature that centers on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision and the anti-caste movement. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to connect with marginalised communities in Assam and introduce them to transformative literature,” a release by the student association said.
However, to bring in books from various publishing houses, the organisation requires ₹50,000 in funding. They have appealed to supporters and well-wishers to contribute to this cause, emphasising the importance of advancing the anti-caste movement.
The relocation of the fair to Khanapara from its previous venue at Chandmari Mechanical Institute aims to ease traffic congestion and avoid disruptions caused by ongoing construction work. The move is expected to provide visitors with a more convenient experience.
Over the years, the Assam Book Fair has evolved into a major literary and cultural hub, featuring a wide range of publishers, authors, and readers. This year’s fair promises to uphold its legacy while embracing diverse voices, such as those represented by AIISCA’s initiative.
Visitors to the fair can look forward to a vibrant mix of literature, cultural programs, and discussions. AIISCA’s stall is anticipated to be a highlight, offering a unique perspective on the region’s socio-political and cultural discourse.
