The National Panchayat Awards 2024 ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, is set to take place today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will confer awards on 45 panchayats, recognising their outstanding contributions to sustainable and inclusive development across various thematic areas.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will unveil a booklet titled Best Practices on Works of Awardee Panchayats, documenting innovative practices of the winning panchayats. The minister will also facilitate the digital transfer of award money to the winners. A short film highlighting the achievements of select panchayats and the role of training institutes in strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions will be screened during the event.
Among the awardees are nine panchayats from Assam and Tripura. From Assam, Jengrai Gram Panchayat in Majuli district will receive the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar in the child-friendly category, along with ₹1 crore. Bebejia Demow Bangthai Gram Panchayat in Nagaon district has been chosen for the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar and will be awarded ₹1.25 crore for being the best Gram panchayat.

From Tripura, seven Gram panchayats have been recognised. Betcherra, Rajkang, Debbari, and South Manubankul have been selected under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Amarpur and Gomati will receive the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, while Thakchara will be awarded the Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar.
This year, special awards for achieving carbon neutrality and advancing energy sovereignty will also be presented. These awards, spanning categories like poverty alleviation, health, child welfare, water conservation, sanitation, social justice, and women empowerment, aim to inspire panchayats nationwide to adopt best practices in governance and rural development.
