In a shocking revelation, a patient at STNM Hospital in Sikkim underwent a major surgery on October 8, 2024, to remove surgical scissors that had been left inside her abdomen for over a decade following an appendix operation in 2012.
The woman’s husband reported that his wife had undergone surgery for an appendix at the old STNM hospital in 2012. Following the procedure, she experienced persistent and severe abdominal pain, which led to further medical investigations. However, it wasn’t until October 8, 2024, that doctors discovered surgical scissors lodged in her abdomen.
The presence of the surgical scissors had gone undetected for more than a decade, raising serious concerns about medical negligence, patient safety, and hospital protocols.
