Imphal: One more person, who sustained multiple bullet injuries during an inter-village conflict in Ukhrul district, has succumbed to his injuries at JNIMS hospital in Imphal.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old YR Pamreiyo from Hungpung village. He is survived by his wife and three children.
According to reliable sources, Pamreiyo was evacuated from the District Hospital in Hungpung to JNIMS after suffering bullet wounds to his abdomen and lower leg. Despite undergoing surgery, he succumbed to his injuries six hours later. Sources said the bullets had pierced his intestines.
A condolence service was organized by his village members in Imphal before his body was taken back to Hungpung for the funeral.
This raises the total death toll in the clash between Hunphun and Hungpung villages on Wednesday to four, including a personnel of the 6th Manipur Rifles. Over 40 people were injured in the conflict, including a policeman and a Manipur Rifles personnel.
At least 12 of the injured were admitted to JNIMS, while nine others were taken to RIMS in Imphal.
The situation in Ukhrul district remains tense, with heavy security deployed to maintain law and order. Emergency powers under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, have been enforced in the affected areas since 9:30 am on October 2 and will remain in place until further notice.
