The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is set to hold its 10th Convocation on 27th August 2024. During the ceremony, the Governor of Meghalaya, C.H. Vijayashankar, will confer degrees in the presence of various Vice Chancellors, academicians, distinguished guests, and thousands of students.
This year, the Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degrees will be awarded to two prominent cultural figures from the North East. Zubeen Garg, an iconic singer from Assam, and Lou Majaw, a celebrated pop-rock artist from Meghalaya, will receive this prestigious honour from the Governor.
Zubeen Garg is renowned for his versatility, having made significant contributions as a singer, music director, composer, lyricist, music producer, actor, film director, scriptwriter, and philanthropist. His work spans Assamese, Bengali, and Bollywood music and films.

Lou Majaw, often referred to as the Bob Dylan of India, is more than just a singer. He is a storyteller, social commentator, and cultural icon whose powerful voice and lyrics capture the essence of love, loss, and the Khasi way of life.
The Convocation will commence at 11 am on 27th August at USTM’s Central Auditorium. A total of 1,639 graduates will receive their degrees, including 17 Ph.D. scholars, 906 Postgraduate students, and 716 Undergraduate students.
