Aizawl: The Kolasib Vehicle Owners Joint Committee has announced a total road blockade, effective from August 22, impacting National Highway 306 (NH 306). The blockade will halt all vehicle movement through the district, a crucial route for the transportation of goods, including rations, oil, and other necessities to the rest of the state. This is expected to lead to significant shortages of essential supplies across Mizoram.
The announcement came after a meeting held on Monday evening at the Kolasib DC Conference Hall, chaired by Kolasib Deputy Commissioner (DC) Robert C. Lalhmangaiha. The meeting addressed the deteriorating condition of NH 306, which has worsened due to the ongoing monsoon season expected to last until October. The DC voiced concerns about the severe impact on local residents, especially schoolchildren in Kawnpui and Bualpui, who have faced frequent delays.
DC Lalhmangaiha urged the vehicle owners’ committee to reconsider the blockade and explore alternative solutions. To minimize the impact on students, the meeting decided to restrict Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) from operating during morning and evening school hours.
